Ankeny Area Parade of Homes
The 2007 Ankeny Parade of Homes is being held July 21 & 22 and July 28 & 29. The Ankeny Building Association has sponsored the Ankeny Area Parade of Homes for over fifteen years. Hundreds of visitors tour the homes on display across the city of Ankeny and surrounding area. The scattered-site showing of new homes not only provides a great opportunity for builders to showcase their product, it also highlights why the Ankeny area is such a great place to live. The annual parade of homes is held for two weekends each July. (If you would like to enter a home in the 2007 Ankeny Parade of Homes, fill out our online entry form before June 11, 2007)

Tree Lighting Festival
The holiday season in Ankeny officially begins on the first Saturday in December with the annual Tree Lighting Festival. This wonderful community event has been going on in Ankeny for 26 years. It was first started by the Chamber of Commerce. The Ankeny Building Association has generously sponsored the festival since 1998.
This day of holiday festivities begins with the Uptown Ankeny merchants welcoming Mrs. Claus to town. Mrs. Claus can be found in the Holiday House located at SW Third and Maple Streets. The Uptown Association also sponsors a Santa Treasure Hunt for those children, ages 12 and under visiting Mrs. Claus. She distributes tickets and then the children visit the participating 'Santa Stops' in the Uptown area. Every ticket is a winner and the prizes include toys, books, and gift certificates.
Old fashioned horse drawn wagon rides throughout the Uptown area are sponsored by the Ankeny Building Association and run from 2:00 to 4:00pm.
The annual Holiday Electric Lights Parade begins at 5:30. The parade starts at SW Third and Maple Street and continues east on Third Street to Pleasant then north to Wagner Park. The parade is coordinated and sponsored by the Ankeny Jaycees, Ankeny Building Association and the Uptown Ankeny Association.
The annual Tree Lighting Festival is held in Wagner Park on First Street following the parade. The festival includes Christmas music, official lighting of the trees, wagon rides, hot chocolate, popcorn and real reindeer! Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus arrive with treats for all the children. There are 40 artificial trees that are displayed in the park during the festival. These trees are thoughtfully decorated by sponsoring businesses, organizations and families. Later in the evening after the Tree Lighting Festival is over the trees, along with generous amounts of gifts, are delivered by ABA volunteers to families in need in the Ankeny and Saydel areas.
The Tree Lighting Festival is organized by the Ankeny Building Association in cooperation with the Uptown Ankeny Association, Ankeny Jaycees, Ankeny Police Department, City Ankeny Parks Department, Ankeny Fire Department, Ankeny Chamber of Commerce and Ankeny Community Schools.
